Supporting people with learning
disabilities to lead fulfilled lives
About Spokes

The primary aim of Spokes is to help young people with learning disabilities to be able to find and remain in employment, in the future.

So many of them have been told, all of their lives, that they can't achieve.

It is not surprising that they start to believe this!

But they can achieve a lot.

A message from the team at Spokes...

We are operating an appointment system to purchase bikes and to drop & collect your cycle repairs.

Appointments can be made between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday - Closing at 4.30pm

Saturday 9am to 12pm - Closing at 12.30pm.

Call 01562 861154 to book.

Please remember to wear a face covering, use our hand sanitisers and to maintain a social distance of 2 meters.

Thank you.

We therefore work on the development of each person: Self esteem, Practical abilities, Basic English, Maths and Computer skills. As well as good social development when working with other people.
We see incredible improvements in the people who come to Spokes as they start to believe in themselves.

In Addition
  • We recycle and renovate bikes for both adults and children. Each trainee is supported to work at their own individual ability level to manufacture good quality affordable bikes for resale.

  • We train people to complete the different steps to a task so their skills improve alongside their confidence. They are given the opportunities to get involved with the day to day running of the business, such as answering the phone, serving customers, placing items for sale on on-line platforms and managing our stock.

  • Everyone has a role and his or her contribution is valued and recognised.  The trainee and staff complete an Outcome Star on a 6monthly basis. Personal outcomes are coproduced and progress is measured as people commence on their individual learning journey.

  • Our services are public facing and we place great importance of involving the trainees in community activities. They attend fetes, local shows and fundraising events, which help to develop their social capital.

  • All of these aspects involve people with Learning Difficulties. They gain beneficial experience and skill from the interaction with their peer group and from the knowledge they receive.

  • The staff and trainees rebuild and sell bikes to the public.

  • We also take bikes in for repair and maintenance, with our base of spare parts we can repair most faults!

With these areas of development the people coming to Spokes can aim to get a full and varied life - something that most people take for granted!

Bicycle Repairs

Our team are skilled to deal with a wide range of bicycle problems. Bring in your bike and see how we can help.

Bicycle Rebuilds

Sometimes a bike can need more work than a Repair or Service can cover. It may be an old bicycle that needs TLC or one that has been donated to us. We discuss with you what work needs to be done, the timescale and the cost. Quotes will be given.

Clubs & Schools

Maintenance projects are an important part of what we do. We have maintained mountain bikes at local schools within the Wyre Forest area and at outdoor pursuit centres.

We also have a contract to service Community Support Officers' bikes for local use.

We have contract with University Worcester to provide and maintain their fleet of Bike Hires. Staff and Trainees attend the campus sites in Worcestershire to service the bikes and keep them in a good state of repair.

If you work within a local school, club, association or bike club and would like to know how we could help you, please contact us.
